Some lessons clearly jump out – and some old ones are reinforced

  1. Grass Roots Resistance has Power:Let’s not kid ourselves. While the executive order is indeed a reversal, it creates new problems and uncertainties, and leaves some old ones in place. But there is little doubt that sustained and spreading repulsion stopped the advancement of a singularly ill-conceived approach.

In so many of their skits, they would get into trouble in a way that should have been foreseen. Did you watch the Super Bowl this year? Three noteworthy observations seem appropriate to call out.

First, the Half Time entertainment. Naturally, Trumpsters hated it. I thought it was pretty unique and fun to see. A fine reminder of just how diverse America is, and what strength that brings to the nation. I gather the “alternative” Kid Rock show was pretty much a bust. How ironic that they chose just a sleaze ball as their lead act. So much for values based choices.

Of all the things and places someone as distorted as Trump might fixate upon, he decides on Greenland. Really? Greenland? It gets weirder by the day.

A few days ago, Donald Trump announced that the United States (meaning him, Trump, since Congress has so far given away its power to approve tariffs) will impose a 10 percent tariff on goods imported from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Finland beginning February 1. That tariff will increase to 25 percent on June 1 and will remain in place, according to Trump,

What Kind of Year Is Upon Us?

Thanks to everyone for your patience on the day+ delay on this posting. Still working through a few technical issues but looks like we are pretty much back on line, so here we go.

Too soon to tell, of course. There continue, and in some cases increasing, worrisome things afoot, but also some promising indicators have begun showing up. We will not try to list all those possibilities, but let’s take a look at 10 events/indicators worth observing and we will see how things go from there.
