Today is the Day, America
It’s all over except the remaining voters still in line across the country and the final vote counts. It is possible, but unlikely, that we will know who won by late tonight. More likely, it will take a few days.
There is nothing left to say at this point. Every American has the information they need to decide – now we are doing just that.
Both Chose Their Final Messaging
In so many ways, the closing arguments of both campaigns really did say it all.
One chose – not by coincidence, I believe – to have his closing rally at the site of the largest pro-Nazi rally in America, held in 1939. The similarities were well beyond location. Trump’s closing event was one of hate, isolation of the vulnerable, racism, sexism, isolationism, and one lie after another. To say it was an exposure of America’s ugly underbelly would be too mild a description by far. Trump said it was a love fest.
The other chose a key site to reclaim it for America. Harris chose the very spot where Trump tried to overturn an election by launching a violent crowd to attack the capital, put lives at risk (and lives were lost) and contaminate our sacred grounds with all that Americans should reject. Harris used the closing to articulate what she hopes for our country and to reach out to more than just her supporters, to those who disagree on many issues but share the belief in this country, the constitution, and the rule of law.
History Calls Us All On This One
No person in American history has ever been so unqualified, so unsuitable for high office. On moral, political, mental, emotional, practical, and so many other grounds, he is unacceptable. It will be a pain in the heart for me forever that so many Americans choose to overlook all of this. But I am betting many more will say No More.
Now begins the count. Wish us luck, America. Get this wrong and we will pay the price for generations. Get it right, and so much good is at least possible.
