Think You Know AI? Meet his Close Friend, Nanobot

These Two as a Team Will Truly Change the World

What?! No Politics, No Supreme Court?!

Yes, we do have a lot to talk about on those fronts, but frankly too much has happened too soon. We need a few days to settle down and deal with these. The Not-So Supreme Court truly has done serious, serious damage to America, but we will talk about that later.

For now, just know we need the folks who really care about America to win the White House, both houses of Congress, and a slew of state races. Real reform, especially of the Court, is needed in a big way. This cannot stand.

For today, how about a Science break?

Ray Kurzweil Has It About Right

Kurzweil is the guy who coined the term The Singularity, describing a time wherein Artificial Intelligence reached a level of consciousness and merged with humans. It all sounded like science fiction years ago, but even then, I thought this guy was on to something. Much of what he predicted is happening, pretty much on the timelines he foresaw, give or take a few years.

He just published a few days ago an update on all this in a book title The Singularity is Nearer: When We Merge with AI. Fascinating, scary, encouraging. I am just into it, but as I expected, it is a heck of a good read. Kurzweil has no illusions about the risk in all this, but he thinks we will come out on the other side into a world of remarkable possibilities and positives. I recommend the reading. Your local library is unlikely to have it for a while, but some bookstores will have it early and it is already available online.

Nanobot to the Rescue

As luck would have it, just as I was starting the Kurzweil book, I came across an amazing article on the development of nanobots, and their teaming up with AI. Nanobots are now being made that are hundreds of time narrower than a human hair, yet capable of executing sophisticated commands, taking on things about the size of a single atom. Their use in medicine, to detect and treat is already remarkable, with much more possible.

Case in point: many viruses and bacteria adapt as needed over time to resist chemicals and other treatment. Radiation often can cure, but at terrible damage to other parts of the body. Viruses are especially adept at adapting to neutralize medical treatments.

Most viruses and bacteria are basically soft, largely liquid bubbles with tough shell rings around them – built to survive. Now imagine a nanobot programed to home in on cancer cells. The bots drill into the soft mass of the cell, bypassing the border ring. Then is vibrates or oscillates at incredible speed, rupturing the cell (and killing it) from the inside. No adapting to being total ruptured from the inside. End of the cancer. Early animal and computer experiments are very promising.

Once we learn how to target the problems, we program the bots to destroy. A whole roster of diseases will quickly disappear. Right now, they are working on dementia. Imagine wiping out that disease, at reasonable cost, with no risks such as we have with chemo and radiation. They are already looking hard at the roster of cancers and of even in aging, and in other areas.

Better Days

The prospects for AI and Nanobots in medicine are staggering. Once the process is mastered, a long roster of diseases will cease to exist.

This is the good stuff. Life is about to undergo some major changes. Wish us luck.

See You Next Week

We only have about 120 days until national elections. Really not possible to overstate what is at risk and what is possible. A lot of forces are at work, but in the end, voters most likely will make the call.

Will be interesting to see if we are up to it.
